I’ve talked to a few people recently who have informed me that their reading is not going quite as perfectly as possible. And now, mine isn’t either :-/ With a whole day full of Christmas shopping, dentist appointments, and general chaos, I read about 10 chapters yesterday. Oi. I’m pretty much a whole day behind.
But I’m not giving up now, and you shouldn’t either!
Maybe you’re even more behind than I am; maybe you’ve only done your first day’s readings, maybe you’ve only finished Genesis… only you know! And maybe you think you’ve passed the point of being able to do it… But don’t stop! Please try. It’s amazing how a few extra readings a day can help, or how much you can read on New Years night. And remember there is a catch up day coming up (yes, it is Christmas. But if you even manage to read ten chapters before you fall asleep that’s ten less you’re behind.) I think it all comes down to reading whatever you can whenever you can. I baked cookies the other day. I read while they were in the oven because I knew in ten minutes I would have to pull them out, scoop more onto the tray and repeat it all again. I was waiting for a chance to check my email earlier, so I opened up my Bible and get in a chapter or two.
So, my helpful tip for you: Carry your Bible with you everywhere and get in some moments whenever you can.
But maybe you took on a little to much. Maybe you didn’t realize that your two weeks would be so busy, maybe some things have come up. That doesn’t mean you quit. Maybe you should just rearrange your reading schedule. Maybe you’re new goal is simply the Old Testament instead of the whole thing. Or maybe it’s just the end of Genesis. You can still complete a lot of reading, and really, no one is the looser when we’re reading God’s word.
So stop your pessimistic thoughts and get reading! (and stop your procrastinating too… we both know you could be reading your Bible instead of this blog!
)
